Start training now and you could be ready to run in the 20th anniversary Walt Disney World Marathon, scheduled for January 10 through 13, 2013, at the Walt Disney World Resort, Orlando. All you’ll need is entry into the 20,000-person field and a great Disney timeshare for relaxing afterward. Okay, the Disney timeshare is not mandatory for being part of the race, but it sure would feel great to relax at the end of race day in the comfort and convenience of a Disney Vacation Club timeshare.
Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend
Presented as the anchor to the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, the Walt Disney World Marathon will be run on a course that takes the runners through the Walt Disney World Speedway and the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex’s Champion Stadium. At Mile Marker 20, there will be special entertainment to help celebrate the race’s 20th anniversary and after the race, a post-race party will be held at Downtown Disney. Other run related events scheduled include a Health & Fitness Expo, with celebrity guests, including Jeff Galloway, runDisney’s official training consultant, kids races, and add-on options for participants and their fans, such as the Pasta in the Park Party, and select runners pre-race packages and spectator packages.
Finish the Race for Your Commemorative Medallion
runDisney has just revealed the design for the special 20th Anniversary commemorative run medal, which features a classic circle with two spinning elements, images of Mickey Mouse, and two quotes from the late Walt Disney. The finishers medal will go to everyone who completes the 26.2 mile run.
Faron Kelley, Director of Marketing and Communication for Disney Sports says, “For 20 years runDisney medals have set the standard in the running industry. This medal builds on that rich tradition and is an extraordinary keepsake that celebrates the 20 years of marathon experiences for people from around the world who have run in this time-honored event.”
Other Disney Weekend Options
If the 26 plus miles sounds like a bit much to tackle, the Marathon Weekend will offer other less demanding races:
- the Donald Half Marathon on Saturday
- Mickey Marathon on Sunday
- Goofy Race and a Half (both the Donald and the Mickey)
- and Friday’s Family Fun Run 5K – an event that even welcomes baby strollers
All races require participants maintain a 16 minute-per-mile or faster average pace, which should be friendly to even first-time participants and walkers. Last year the WDW Marathon Weekend, which is runDisney’s largest race weekend, attracted a record-setting 56,000 participants to its multiple races. Registration is already well underway, so if you want to participate, you should make your plans now.
Your Disney Timeshare Accommodations
Where will you stay during you’re your busy weekend at the WDW Marathon? As a race participant or spectator, you certainly don’t want to be ‘running around’ looking for last minute accommodations. If you are not a Member of the Disney Vacation Club, you might consider a Disney timeshare resale, Disney timeshare rental, or other Orlando timeshare resale or Orlando timeshare rental for your busy weekend.
