Hilton Introduces Digital Key

Hilton Digital Key

Hilton Worldwide has officially introduced Digital Key, an innovative feature on the Hilton HHonors App. Digital Key allows HHonors members the ability to open their room by using their smartphone.

This state-of-the-art technology means no more fumbling for your hotel key-card or getting locked out of your room! Guests also have the luxury of bypassing the check-in counter and can go straight to their room.

Digital Key is now available at select Hilton properties for beta testing. By early next year, Hilton plans to offer the app feature at 250 resorts including Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, and Canopy by Hilton properties.

Since July, over 5 million HHonors members have checked in using Digital Key. During the launch, there were 2 million downloads of the HHonors app, and the reviews have been extremely positive. In fact, 93% of users have shared that they are either “satisfied” or “extremely satisfied” with the program.

Senior VP and global head of Digital, Hilton Worldwide, Geraldine Calpin shared, “HHonors members can use digital check-in and room selection at more than 4,100 properties globally — and those who have used it have shared exceptional feedback. With Digital Key, we are making the guest experience even more seamless through our improved mobile app.”

Besides key-less entry, the Hilton HHonors provides members with a variety of benefits. Through the app, HHonor members can book accommodations, select their room from a floor plan, and request specific amenities including extra towels, pillows, and snacks.

Calpin continues, “Through our app, we’re giving HHonors members the ability to better control and personalize their stay with us. Imagine if an HHonors member is arriving at our hotel after a long trip or running late to a meeting, Digital Key can provide our frequent guests the added benefit of going straight to their room without stopping at the front desk.”

Guests who wish to use Digital Key can check-in online using the HHonors app up to 24 hours before their arrival. Once their room is ready on the arrival date, the guests can enter their room by pressing “unlock” on the Digital Key.

Currently, Digital Key is only available on iOS, but will be available for Android users later this year. Those who elect to use the program at one of Hilton’s beta hotels will also receive 2,500 Hilton HHonors Bonus Points.
