In conjunction with Shanghai Shendi Group, Disney will open its doors to guests in its new Shanghai Resort on June 16, 2016. To commemorate the grand opening of Disney’s latest theme park, there will be a multi-day celebration, with the actual opening happening at the tail end of the events.

Disney chief executive Robert Iger had this to say about the new park,

“This park will be a one-of-a-kind, world-class destination that is authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese. It will include Disney’s legendary storytelling along with China’s rich culture, and showcases some of the most creative and innovative experiences we’ve ever created.”

In 2014, Disney and Shanghai Shendi Group decided to expand their offerings and capitalize on the large growth in tourism China had been receiving, adding more attractions, entertainment and the like. On opening day, Disneyland will include six “lands” —Adventure Isle, Gardens of Imagination, Mickey Avenue, Tomorrowland, Treasure Cove and Fantasyland. Fantasyland will revolve around Disney’s trademark Enchanted Storybook Castle, which will be the largest and tallest of any Disney theme park.

In addition, there will also be a Disneyland Hotel, Toy Story Hotel, a shopping and entertainment feature called Disneytown, and a recreational area named Wishing Star Park with gardens, paths and a lake.

The resort is located in the Pudong District of Shanghai and will mark the first Disney destination in mainland China. It’s also said to be the largest foreign investment project in Shanghai and one of the largest in China’s history.
