Hyatt Carmel Highlands Celebrates Centennial Anniversary with Finished Renovations

Hyatt Carmel Highlands, a grand Northern California Hotel featuring 48 luxury guestrooms located along the breathtaking Big Sur Coast, recently announced the completion of one of its most exciting transformations in its 100-year history. The oceanfront resort boasts a renovated lobby area, redesigned guest rooms, and remodeled restaurants and lounge. The resort will commemorate its renovations, as well as its centennial anniversary, with a celebration in late July.

Formerly known as the Highlands Inn, the Hyatt Carmel Highlands recreated their establishment using the hotel’s rich history and the city’s thriving artistic, social, and literary culture as inspiration. Redesign was applied to many aspects of the resort.

The guestrooms, including 10 suites, undertook a brand new design with new furnishings, decor, color schemes, new heating and additional air conditioning. The rooms now host an aesthetic inspired by the area’s upscale, coastal vibe.

The resort’s restaurant, the California Market at Pacific’s Edge, added an expanded 40-seat, 1,200-square-foot patio with a new gourmet menu. Additional furnishings include a large communal table made out of a fallen Monterey cypress tree trunk as well as a number of new high top tables.

The Sunset Lounge has been redesigned to offer guests a one-of-a-kind view of the awe-inspiring coastline. Additions have been made to the bar menu including delectable tapas and hand-crafted cocktails, and the lounge features local, live jazz and soul music every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

The lobby area boasts new furnishings and living room-style components, opening itself up for parties of up to 100 guests.

“We are excited to announce the completion of this renovation, just in time to celebrate the centennial of the hotel,” said James Cooper, Hyatt Carmel Highlands’ general manager/managing director. “These upgrades offer a fresh new look, fusing modern touches with the authentic ambiance that this iconic property is known for worldwide.”

Hyatt Carmel Highlands will kick off its centennial celebration on Friday, July 28th. The festivities will showcase the exclusive Local Legends event offering Monterey County’s acclaimed wines and winemakers as well as local chefs that have helped define the cuisine of the California community.
