Orlando Timeshare Developer Played Landlord to Michael Jackson

Author: Jason Tremblay

For all the stories coming out now about the life (and death) of music icon Michael Jackson, one of the more intriguing comes from timeshare developer, David Siegel.

Siegel is the founder and CEO of Westgate timeshare and Westgate Vacation Villas, based in Orlando, Florida. Over the years, the theme parks made Orlando a favorite vacation destination for pop king, Michael Jackson, but with his fame and notoriety, he couldn’t exactly enjoy a quiet stay in an Orlando hotel or Orlando timeshare. So he rented private property.

And no residential location in the Orlando area is any more private that the exclusive mansions behind the guarded gates of Isleworth, located in a corner of the Orlando area, in the tiny town of Windermere. In addition to being home to Jacqueline and David Siegel, Isleworth’s famous residents include Ken Griffey Jr., Shaquille O’Neal, Tiger Woods, and a host of other ultra-wealthy celebrities and business moguls who own homes there. But it was one of the two Isleworth homes of Westgate timeshare’s Siegel that appealed to Jackson most among the cloistered mansions, possibly because it is located on a four-acre private island—and privacy is what Jackson stressed mattered most.

So from time to time, Michael Jackson and his entourage would contact Siegel and request to rent the Siegel family’s little 26,000 square-foot home with its 60-foot heated pool bordered in real gold and its 1700 feet of shoreline along the pristine freshwater of the Butler Chain of Lakes. With every Orlando visit, there was always the caveat that Siegel was to tell no one about Jackson’s presence, and for the weekly rental rate of $15,000, Siegel had plenty of motivation to honor the pop star’s request.

Which is why David Siegel found it so amazing, that after all the pledges of secrecy, soon after arriving at the Florida retreat, Jackson would be spotted on the roof of the home. As Siegel explained to FOX News Orlando, “He said he’ll take it under the condition that nobody knows he’s here. I didn’t tell anybody. He moves in. Within a day, he’s up on top of the house waving at boaters!”

How long do you think it takes, in Orlando, Florida, already known as Hollywood East because of the movie production and music recording industry based there, for paparazzi to identify the King of Pop standing on the widow’s walk of a two-story mansion, waiving one gloved hand to the recreational boaters just off shore?

And if you are thinking about enjoying the sunny weather, theme parks, and sparking lakes of Orlando and Central Florida yourself, but you are not planning on renting a private mansion, here are links to beautiful Westgate timeshares you can enjoy for a lot less money … but wherever you go, stay off the roof.

Part III: Marriott Timeshare Resorts Recognized by State of Florida with Green Lodging Program Designation

Author: Jason Tremblay

Today in Part III we wrap up our look at the three Florida Marriott timeshares that have recently received the Florida Green Lodging Program Designation.

Marriott timeshare (Marriott Vacation Club International) announced this week that three Florida timeshare resorts meet all of the requirements for a Florida Green Lodging Program Designation. Of the three Marriott timeshares, two are Orlando timeshares, and the third, is Marriott’s Crystal Shores on Marco Island, located on Florida’s Gulf Coast near Naples.

Green Lodging at Florida Timeshares and Hotels

The Florida Green Lodging Program is a state initiative through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The program was created to assist the lodging industry by providing free technical assistance regarding cost-saving, environmentally green practices that conserve natural resources and reduce waste. Furthering the state’s commitment to supporting the Green Lodging initiative, Florida Governor Charlie Crist signed an executive order in 2007, requiring that state agencies and departments, meeting in hotel, timeshare, or lodging facilities, must choose only those properties with a Florida Green Lodging Program designation, whenever possible.

As Marriott Vacation Club International continues its dedication to environmental responsibility, all eleven Marriott Vacation Club International Florida timeshare resorts are on track to receive a “One Palm” designation from the Florida Green Lodging Program. Two Marriott Florida timeshares, Marriott’s Oceana Palms -The Palm Beaches and Marriott’s Lakeshore Reserve at Grande Lakes in Orlando are currently under development and are not presently eligible for the certification until they are operational.

Marriott’s Timeshare’s Newest Florida Resort, a Design Showplace

Marriott's Crystal Shores on Marco Island timeshare resales and timeshare rentals.

The beautiful, beachside resort, Marriott’s Crystal Shores on Marco Island timeshare resort is the newest Marriott timeshare property in Florida, opening in March of 2009. At build-out, this Florida timeshare will feature approximately 219 timeshare villas. The resort is a showcase of Marriott’s newest architectural and interior design direction. At the time of opening, Stephen P. Weisz, president of Marriott Vacation Club International explained, “After more than 17 years of searching for just the right location on Marco Island, we couldn’t be more pleased to see this resort come to fruition on this prime beachfront setting.”

Marriott timeshare deserves a round of applause from all of us as well as our gratitude. They have taken significant steps to improve the environmental consciousness of their timeshare resorts and the administrative offices of Marriott Vacation Club International. They set an excellent example of corporate America showing true responsibility for the environment and the future of generations to come.

Part II: Marriott Timeshare Resorts Earn Special ‘Green’ Designation from State of Florida

Author: Jason Tremblay

This is Part II in a three-part report on outstanding Marriott timeshares that have recently received the Florida Green Lodging Program Designation.

Recognizing that Marriott has always been a leader in vacation ownership, and was one of the first branded hotel companies to offer timeshares, it is really no surprise that Marriott timeshare is now a pacesetter in creating environmentally responsible lodging.

This week, three popular Florida timeshares, all Marriott resorts, received the Green Lodging Program Designation, from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Marriott’s Grande Vista (the subject of yesterday’s post on The Timeshare Authority); Marriott’s Cypress Harbour; and Marriott’s Crystal Shores on Marco Island each received this special designation because of their efforts to recycle, reduce, preserve, and educate others about issues of environmental awareness.

In 2008, Marriott Vacation Club International launched the MVCI Green Initiatives, starting at their corporate headquarters and branching out their efforts to include their corporate offices and timeshare resorts worldwide. In so doing, they eliminated over a quarter million pieces of Styrofoam and plastic waste that would have annually wound up in the nation’s landfills.

Deas Bohn, director Florida Department of Environmental Protection Sustainable Initiatives, said, “It is wonderful to see businesses implement green practices such as water conservation, recycling and energy reduction because they are not only good for business, they are good for Florida’s environment.”

Marriott’s Cypress Harbour Timeshares Combine Vacation Comfort with Environmental Consciousness

Marriott’s Cypress Harbour timeshare is an Orlando, Florida timeshare resort, which instantly means vacation fun and a convenient location to all your favorite Central Florida attractions and theme parks. Offering a 15-acre lake for boating and fishing, three sparkling swimming pools, and an 18-hole golf course, Marriott’s Cypress Harbour timeshare is a vacation destination certain to please vacationers of all ages and interests.

Opportunities in Marriott's Cypress Harbour timeshare resales and timeshare rentals.

With an “Old Florida” ambiance, the resort is a relaxing oasis of green, where stately live oaks and tropical palms create a relaxing atmosphere. The resort is built on both sides of the lake with a walking bridge across the water.

Boats, fishing gear, and bicycle rentals are all available on property, as is a convenience store, the Galley Grill for lakeside lunches, a 24-hour a day fitness center, and enough other amenities that guests and timeshare owners may be tempted to spend their entire vacation without ever leaving the property at this beautiful Florida timeshare resort.

Marriott’s Cypress Harbour timeshare resort… Another very special Marriott timeshare property that is clearly forward thinking and socially aware of what it means to all of us to protect and restore our environment.

Tomorrow’s The Timeshare Authority looks at Marriott’s Crystal Shores on Marco Island, in Part III in this series.

Three Marriott Timeshare Resorts Earn Special ‘Green’ Designation as Environmentally Conscious Resorts

Author: Jason Tremblay

This is a three-part report on outstanding Marriott timeshares that have recently received the Florida Green Lodging Program Designation.

Part I:

This week, Marriott Vacation Club International announced that three Marriott timeshare properties have achieved the Florida Green Lodging Program Designation. The resorts, Marriott’s Grande Vista, Marriott’s Cypress Harbour, and Marriott’s Crystal Shores on Marco Island, are the first Marriott timeshare properties to gain this distinctive recognition.

Opportunities in Marriott’s Grande Vista timeshare resales and timeshare rentals.

As Troy Asche, regional vice president of operations for the Florida-Caribbean region of Marriott Vacation Club International said (source: Marriott’s media release of June 23, 2009), “Now, more than ever, environmental stewardship is a critical part of delivering unforgettable vacation experiences to our Owners and guests and vital to the future of travel and tourism. By taking strategic steps to ‘green’ our resort operations, our collective efforts can make a huge impact on preserving our beautiful Florida environment.”

Florida Timeshares that Earn the Green Lodging Award

The Green Lodging Program is part of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. This intuitive was launched in 2004, establishing the environmental guidelines for guest lodging facilities to conserve natural resources and prevent pollution. In order to receive the award, a hotel, motel, timeshare resort, or other lodging facility must demonstrate a successful commitment to protecting Florida’s resources, an ecosystem that is totally unique in all of the United States.

Resorts that qualify as Green Lodging properties have taken steps such as: implementing recycling in timeshare villas, commons areas, and food service areas; installing compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL’s) throughout the property; using low flow toilets, showerheads and faucets; asking guests to reuse linens and towels when possible; switching to the use of environmentally friendly cleaning products, and using Energy Star rated electronics and appliances. Other environmentally responsible actions may also contribute to a timeshare resort receiving this award.

Marriott’s Grande Vista Orlando Timeshare

In upcoming The Timeshare Authority blog posts, we will look at all of these three outstanding Marriott timeshare resorts to receive the Green Lodging Designation this year, starting with Marriott’s Grande Vista, an Orlando timeshare.

Grande Vista timeshare is an Interval International Premier rated timeshare resort, offering four sparkling pool complexes, a serene lake for boating and water sports, the Faldo Golf Institute by Marriott, a 9-hole executive course, a 35-acre practice area, and access to Marriott’s Grande Pines Golf Club. Both golf facilities are members of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses.

Located in the heart of the attractions area of Orlando, a Marriott’s Grande Vista timeshare vacation puts you conveniently close to Disney, Universal, SeaWorld, and all the fun of a central Florida vacation. Yet with 164 acres, the Grande Vista timeshare is an oasis of green, amidst pines, oaks and tropical palms, and well deserves recognition as a noteworthy environmentally conscious resort.

Tomorrow’s The Timeshare Authority blog will look at Marriott’s Cypress Harbour and Marriott’s Crystal Shores on Marco Island and how they have also earned the Florida Green Lodging Program Designation.

Disney Timeshare Owners and Guests Can Interact With Nature in a Very Special Way

Author: Jason Tremblay

Guests and timeshare owners at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort timeshare have the opportunity to participate in a very special way with the annual march to the sea of hatchling baby turtles. Sea turtles have been on earth, essentially unchanged, for more than 100 million years. Each summer, in a dramatic demonstration of genetic imprinting, thousands of baby sea turtles of the green and the loggerhead species hatch on the beaches of Florida’s coasts, many on the beaches near Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, a Florida timeshare just south-east of Orlando.

Because as few as 1000 hatchling turtles will make it through the trek from hatching on the beach to returning to the ocean, (that’s one hatchling surviving out of every 1000 eggs) conservationists take extreme measures to protect the baby turtles, attempting to ensure that as many as possible survive. There are very strict laws in many coastal cities regarding lighting that is visible from the beach as it disorients the baby turtles, sometimes causing them to believe they are walking toward moonlight reflecting off the ocean, when in reality they are headed in exactly the wrong direction.

Disney’s Vero Beach Timeshare for Very Special Vacation Memories

To help their timeshare guests and timeshare owners at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort share in the annual turtle migration, Disney Vacation Club offers a program called Adopt-a-Nest. Partnering with the Caribbean Conservation Corporations and the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund, timeshare owners and other guests who donate $50 per nest receive a special package of Disney mementos, and the certificate for the nest number and the nest location, of their “adopted” turtles. If their turtle adoptees hatch during the participant’s vacation, then they may get to experience the event firsthand, but if not, they can track online the activities at the turtle nest site by going to this website: Disney Conservation.

Imagine how special it would be to watch the tiny turtles in their moonlit march to the sea; think of the memories your whole family will enjoy. Being part of such a momentous event, takes the magic of a Disney timeshare or Disney timeshare resale vacation to a whole new level.

Orange Lake Timeshare Calls it Operating in the Sweet Spot

Author: Jason Tremblay

The May issue of Perspective Magazine, carries an excellent article about Orange Lake Timeshares, pointing out that it is a steadily growing resort company despite the economy. This Orlando timeshare is located near Walt Disney World on roughly 2000 scenic acres that include four golf courses (good golf courses!), restaurants, pools, and retail shops.

What is particularly interesting about Orange Lake Country Club timeshare is their financial solidity. Don’t try to tell the management of this successful Orlando timeshare that there’s a recession going on. Not only are they not laying off timeshare employees, but Orange Lake timeshares has been hiring. Since 2004, Orange Lake timeshare’s staff has doubled to 2400 employees. In 2007, Orange Lake experienced a 20 percent increase in sales; in 2008, an additional 20 percent increase. Impressively, sales in the first two months of 2009 have outperformed sales during the same two months of 2008.

This Orlando Timeshare Has the Right Idea

But where does this kind of rock-solid business positioning come from? Here’s how President and CEO Don Harrill explains it, “To date, we’ve not been impacted by the credit freeze. Four years ago, (with) none of us knowing the credit squeeze was going to be at our door; part of the plan at the time was to engage our bankers.”

In a long-term plan that involved extensive due diligence; developing a technology platform; creating the legal structure; recruiting professionals with club experience; and expanding the resort network; Orange Lake Country Club timeshare resort mapped out their plan for growth and acquisition. It was a carefully laid plan with apparently the right balance of conservatism and aggressiveness.

“We laid out the performance metrics in excruciating detail and developed very strong local relationships with SunTrust and Wachovia. Our bankers have been on this journey with us for these four years, and they have seen played out everything we said we were going to do in managing and growing our business,” says Harrill. He adds that their bankers have celebrated with them in their successes and year-over-year increases.

But perhaps one of the most striking statements by Orange Lake Country Club timeshare’s head man is this, “We’re not a huge, billion-dollar company, but we operate in a sweet spot that is financeable by regional bankers.

In a time when a great deal of public sentiment regarding businesses and corporations in America has shifted from support to suspicion, from respect to resentment, Orange Lake timeshares are sending a timeless business message. They aren’t in trouble now and they haven’t felt the bite of the tight economy simply because they didn’t try to overgrow their business or their market. They did the research and then carefully moved forward—basic business fundamentals that too many companies seem to have forgotten.

Congratulations Orange Lake timeshares on your growth and success! You represent the timeshare industry proudly and serve as a great example of what good business is really supposed to mean in this country.

We’ve looked at only a tiny part of Orange Lake timeshare’s impressive story, including their new branding alliance with Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts, which we have discussed several times this past year, here on The Timeshare Authority.

Key West Timeshare is the Site for a Family Story with a Very Happy Ending

Author: Jason Tremblay

In addition to using timeshare for memorable vacations, honeymoons, and get-away-from-it-all retreats, timeshares are often the setting for family reunions. Because of their spaciousness, larger timeshare units mean an extended or blended family, or perhaps several families, can often share one timeshare villa, with plenty of room for all. A family reunion at a timeshare resort typically means there will be activities and entertainment to suit family members of all ages.

But for all the family reunions that will happen this summer at timeshare resorts across the country and around the world, there will probably be none more touching than the reunion that took place recently at a popular Key West timeshare, the Galleon Resort and Marina.

A Happy Reunion at a Key West Timeshare Resort

When child protective services separated three little boys from their father, back in the late 1940’s, it meant each brother would grow up without knowing the other two. But last week, a lifetime of separation ended when the three men were reunited.

The Galleon Resort and Marina timeshare

Jim Shultz, age 62; Mike Searcy, age 61; and Michael Lewis Locker, age 60, came together for the first time since being separated some sixty years ago. As babies and toddlers, they were split up and then sent to orphanages or foster parents, pending adoption.

All of the men were renamed in their new families, with two brothers being given the name “Michael”. Jim, who is now retired, previously worked in the security business while his brother Mike Locker, also retired, chose a similar career in law enforcement. Both Jim and Mike Locker grew up knowing they were adopted and as adults were able to find each other and build a relationship. But Mike Searcy did not know until 2007 that either of the other two existed.

Searcy, who regularly vacations in his Key West timeshare at the Galleon Resort and Marina, told The Key West Newspaper, “We have been building a long-distance relationship for the past six months, but we didn’t meet face-to-face until I picked them up at the airport here last Saturday.”

The Galleon Resort and Marina timeshare is an idyllic place to retreat for any reason. The five-star resort with its own 90-slip marina overlooks the Gulf of Mexico and the warm tranquil waters of Key West. Both the timeshare resort’s sparkling pool and its private, white sand beach no doubt provided these three brothers and their wives a serene setting to relax and get to know each other. As Mike Shultz summed up their week together, “Mike (Searcy) has been showing us around, but what we have been doing mostly is just telling each other about our lives.”

Plan Your Own Memorable Getaway at a Key West Timeshare

You may never plan a Florida timeshare vacation that is quite as dramatic as this story of three long lost siblings reunited. But the experiences you create today with your family are the memories you will treasure for a lifetime. As busy as your schedule is, why not streamline the vacation planning process with an affordable timeshare resale, and devote your free time to some memory making of your own?

Resources for Families

For family members separated through adoption, reconnecting can be challenging as state and local adoption and privacy laws vary greatly across the US. Here are four organizations that people sometimes turn to for help with their search:

Bay Lake Tower Timeshare Promises to be an Extra Special Disney Vacation Club Resort

Author: Jason Tremblay

Part II of a two part series:

Saturday’s The Timeshare Authority blog looked at Disney’s Vacation Club’s expansion at the Disney Tree House Timeshares at Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa Timeshares and at Kidani Village Timeshares at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Today’s blog post focuses on the new Bay Lake Tower timeshares.

Bay Lake Tower Timeshares Overlooking Disney’s Magic Kingdom at the Contemporary Resort

When Disney’s Contemporary Resort hotel opened, it was met with a great deal of excitement surrounding this modernistic resort property, where the monorail runs right through the hotel lobby. Not quite the Jetsons, but certainly futuristic in feel for 1971.

In 2007, Disney began construction on the new Bay Lake Tower Disney timeshare resort that is adjacent to and part of the Contemporary Hotel, now known as the Contemporary Resort.

Offering the most dramatic views of the Magic Kingdom, some Bay Lake Tower timeshare units even have a screen you can pull aside to permit viewing the Disney fireworks while you enjoy a relaxing soak in an oversize bathtub. Another perk of this timeshare resort property is the rooftop lounge that affords some of the best views available anywhere on the Disney World property of the nightly firework displays.

Many people consider the new Disney Bay Lake Tower timeshare to offer the most spectacular timeshare accommodations among all the Disney Vacation Club resorts. With vaulted ceilings in the larger units (and all units offering a very spacious feel), the designers of these Disney timeshares take particular pride in the granite counter tops and other luxury finishes. These special touches can be found in every Bay Lake Tower timeshare unit, whether it is a studio unit (sleeping up to four), or one of the two-story grand villas designed to accommodate up to twelve happy Disney timeshare vacationers.

The Sky Way Bridge is an elevated covered walkway connecting the timeshares of Bay Lake Tower to Disney’s Contemporary Resort and from there, the rest of the park is as close as a monorail ride.

As with all Disney timeshares, one can expect these three new (or newly renovated) Disney Vacation Club resorts to remain popular destinations. Look for affordable Disney timeshare resales and Disney timeshare rental options available through Sell My Timeshare NOW.

Disney Vacation Club’s Newest Timeshare Units Have Personality Plus Disney Timeshare Amenities

Author: Jason Tremblay

Part I of a two part series:

Read anything about Disney vacations these days and you will find lots of excitement surrounding Disney Vacation Club’s three new or newly-renovated timeshare properties: The Disney Tree House Timeshares, Kidani Village Timeshares, (which is part of Disney’s Animal Kingdom), and Bay Lake Tower Timeshare Resorts.

All three resort areas offer the amenities and comfort you expect in Disney timeshares at Disney Vacation Club, but with individual new features that give them added personality.

Disney Tree House Timeshares at Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa Timeshares

Talks of renovation at Disney’s famous “tree house” villas (now part of the Disney Vacation Club) stalled for years, as environmental engineers struggled to comply with updated watershed laws. If you remember the look of the original tree houses, the accommodations were built on pedestals in order to provide a tree house-like feel with elevated vistas. A clever new design that reduces the circumference of the pedestal while adding additional support columns has enabled Disney to make the timeshare renovations without increasing the environmental footprint of each unit.

The tree houses, now part of Disney Vacation Club’s Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa Timeshares, even include four handicap-accessible timeshare units. Rather than incorporating an elevator into selected timeshare units, the architects have used long—long— ramps to allow access to these Disney timeshares that sit some ten feet above the ground.

The Disney Tree House Villas are definitely the Disney timeshare property to choose if you want proximity to all areas of the Walt Disney World Vacation Kingdom, yet serene feelings of seclusion in a wooded glen that will make you swear you are miles away from the energy and excitement of a Disney vacation. The interiors have been updated with a woodsy décor, but don’t expect your Tree House Villas timeshare vacation to feel like camping—instead you’ll find upscale comfort, right down to the Tuscan bronze details in the baths. The frog fountains in and around the newly renovated pool area offer another fun touch at the Disney Tree House Timeshare Villas.

Disney Vacation Club’s Kidani Village Timeshares at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Sometimes bigger is not better. Kidani Village timeshares create an intimate-feeling resort property located in the heart of Animal Kingdom’s savanna, meaning that you can get up-close views of the animals from many of the balconies or timeshare unit windows.

All of the rooms have the fun feel of a Lion King themed décor, with standard amenities, and while they are sufficiently spacious, they are cozier rooms than you find in Jambo House, which is also part of Disney’s Animal Kingdom timeshares. Because the entire back of the Kidani Village timeshare lodge is located directly adjacent to the wild animal savanna, the pool area is in the front of the resort. The Hakuna Matata playground is a 24-hour recreation area located beside the pool, overlooking the flamingo area and the wild animal savanna. Other recreational areas and basketball courts are directly across the street. This layout maximizes the use of the property’s proximity to the animal habitat and allows timeshare owners the best views possible of the animals in a natural environment.

Be sure to check in on Monday’s The Timeshare Authority blog post, where I’ll fill you in on the timeshare resort many feel offers Disney’s most luxurious timeshare accommodations yet.
