I Dream of a Cocoa Beach Timeshare

I Dream of a Cocoa Beach TimeshareThe name you hear in the news this weekend when the topic turns to Florida will likely be “Isaac” as Hurricane Isaac threatens south Florida and perhaps the Gulf of Mexico. However,  if you happen to be on the other side of the state, perhaps vacationing in a Cocoa Beach timeshare,  then you may hear the name “Jeannie” cropping up in the local buzz. People will be talking about “Jeannie” as in the blonde genie played by beautiful Barbara Eden in the 1960’s sitcom, I Dream of Jeannie.

Although the show only aired for five seasons, from 1965 to 1969, reruns have made it a part of everyone’s treasured memories. And in case you missed an episode or two along the way, the fictitious story was set in the very real venue of Cocoa Beach, Florida, where Major Nelson (played by Larry Hagman) shared a home with the genie, Jeannie, who lived in her magic bottle. When Major Nelson (a NASA astronaut in the show) and his friend and cohort Major Healey headed for work each day it was at the equally real destination of Cape Canaveral, Florida.

This week, a public ceremony was held as a commemorative historical marker was installed at on I Dream of Jeannie Lane in Brevard County, honoring the popular television show and the ‘magic’ it brought to this space coast community.
