The Summer Road Trip Lives on with Wyndham Vacation Rentals

Road Trip

Recently, Wyndham Vacation Rentals® surveyed vacation rental travelers, specifically those who plan to take a road trip to their destination. Through this study*, over 11,000 vacation rental travelers were polled.

Wyndham discovered that most roadtrippers are willing to travel a great distance to rent a timeshare. In fact, 90% of participants stated that they plan to drive an average of 12.3 hours to reach their summer vacation spot.

The study also found that men are more likely to drive during a road trip. Wyndham found that four out of five men (or 79%) take the wheel on road trips. This is compared to just one in five women (or 23%). However, more women shared that they drive aggressively. 49% of women described their driving style as “Pedal to the Metal,” compared to 41% of men. On the other hand, more men described their driving style as “Long & Leisurely” (29% vs. 21%).

President of Wyndham Vacation Rentals North America, Mary Lynn Clark said, “A travel tradition that may have once been seen as a means to an end actually holds much more reverence among vacation rental travelers today. They’re a unique group who often travel with larger parties and appreciate spending as much time as they can with each other, whether it’s on the road or vacationing together under one roof.”

Researchers also discovered that more people are turning to healthy snacks over resorting to fast food. Only 4% of travelers rated fast food as their top snack choice. 26% percent of participants stated that they prefer to snack on things like seeds, nuts, and trail mix. Food preferences were also influenced by location. Wyndham discovered that travelers from Cleveland crave salty snacks, while vacationers from Pittsburgh prefer sweets.

Travelers were also asked what, if anything, annoys them during a road trip. Almost half of participants (49%) shared that bad driving is the most annoying part of a road trip. The second biggest annoyance to drivers was backseat driving with 22%.

Backseat drivers aside, a road trip is a great way to add to your summer vacation. With the abundance of timeshare destinations available, most travelers will be able to find a destination within 12 hours or closer!
