Like millions of other Americans this week, timeshare owners and timeshare renters are taking advantage of lower gas prices and headed for a holiday. The American Automobile Association (AAA) estimates that more than 42 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more away from home during the Independence Day holiday. That’s a nearly 5 percent increase over travel the same week last year.

Friday, June 29 was the day most families picked to begin their holiday, with one in four (25 percent) of the Independence Day travelers commencing their vacation on Friday. Tuesday, July 3  was the second-most popular day for starting the holiday, selected by 19 percent.  Saturday, June 30 and today, Wednesday, July 4 each account for 16 percent of vacationers, with Sunday and Monday being the least popular first days of travel, at 13  and 11 percent respectively.
