Today is opening day at Beaver Creek Resort in Beaver Creek, Colorado. It will open with 720 acres available to guests—over double the amount of acreage accessible since 2002. So far, the resort has already had over 50 inches of natural snowfall, but in case Mother Nature doesn’t play fair, they also house a snowmaking infrastructure to make up for any snow they may be lacking.

“Early-season snowfall combined with snowmaking efforts have made for extraordinary opening day conditions,” said Doug Lovell, chief operating officer for Beaver Creek. “We’re looking forward to offering guests superb skiing and riding, as well as a wide variety of terrain on the main mountain and in Bachelor Gulch. We’re thrilled to welcome the 2015-2016 season.”

Chocolate chip cookies are Beaver Creek’s perennial tradition and opening day will host the 12th Annual World’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition. During this time, 5,000 gourmet chocolate chip cookies will be served and judged, with the winner announced at 3 p.m. In addition to the competition, Beaver Creek will also host the 35th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, November 27th.
