Baker & Hostetler Look at ARDA Timeshare Sales Performance Report

Baker & Hostetler LLP legal advisors to many timeshare companies.Hospitality Lawg, a timeshare and hospitality industry law-blog (i.e., “lawg”) from the industry legal experts at Baker & Hostetler LLP, published a summary last week of the newly released Financial Performance 2011: A Survey of Timeshare & Vacation Ownership Companies.

The financial performance report is developed annually by the ARDA International Foundation. This year, even though the news did not show an increase in sales, it did carry generally good news for the timeshare industry. Although net originated timeshare sales decreased by 2.4 percent between 2009 and 2010, this is a notable improvement compared with a decrease in timeshare sales of over 28 percent during the previous year.

David B. Waller, author of the blog post, is the senior hospitality lawyer in Baker Hostetler’s Denver office and works closely with many nationally known hospitality companies and independent developers. Waller noted, “Not surprisingly, companies with points-based offerings appeared to lead the charge, increasing their share of sales to existing owners from 41 percent to 74 percent.”
