Wyndham Purchases First Hotel in Costa Rica

This week, Wyndham purchased their first franchised resort in Costa Rica. Located in Guanacaste, the new resort will bear the Wyndham Hotel and Resorts® flag and be called the Wyndham Papagayo Yu Resort.

The resort, previously owned by ASECCSS, features 151 guest rooms with breathtaking ocean views. Resort amenities will include a resort pool, shopping, two restaurants, sports courts, spa, and a fitness center. The resort is current under development and is scheduled to open by the end of 2015.

Wyndham Worldwide plans to make this a mixed-use resort, offering both hotel rooms and timeshare opportunities through Wyndham Vacation Ownership and RCI.

This purchase is consistent with Wyndham’s plan to expand their resort collection in Latin America. Since 2012, they opened two Wyndham-branded hotels in Panama and purchased one in Nicaragua (scheduled to open in 2015). Wyndham also plans to open two more city-center resorts in Costa Rica, the Wyndham San Jose Herradura and the Wyndham Garden San Jose Escazu.

President and managing director of Latin America for Wyndham Hotel Group, Paulo Pena said,

The addition of Costa Rica as a Wyndham destination is a great opportunity for members. The Wyndham Papgayo Yu Resort in particular, is positioned in a popular tourist area, along Playa Panama. This beach is a popular spot for both vacationers and surfers! The resort is also conveniently located 12.5 miles away from the Liberia International Airport.
