Atlantis Resort to Build on Ko Olina
Monday, January 25, 2016
The project that was originally announced in 2005 is back in action. Atlantis Resorts is finalizing a deal to build an ocean-themed resort on Ko Olina, located on the coast of Oahu, Hawaii. It’s said that this will be the most expensive resort ever built, with a quote of more than $2 billion.
The resort will be built on 15 acres of land on the Diamond Head side of Disney’s Aulani Resort, and will offer similar amenities to Atlantis’ The Palm resort in Dubai. Resort features will include a large interactive aquarium, a dolphin encounter, and a shark habit. Select rooms will even have a view of the aquarium. The resort will also offer a mixture accommodation styles, ranging from hotel, condo, and timeshare units for guests to choose from.
Currently, there is no timetable yet for the property development, as it’s still in the permitting phase. Ko Olina developer Jeff Stone had this to say about the project when it was first announced in 2005,
“This aquarium will look as the ocean looks. It’ll look as the sea looks today. You’ll be able to view it underneath. You’ll be able to interact with it, actually swim through it, and you’ll be able to learn from it in a natural setting.”
