Wednesday, October 5, 2016
Wyndham Worldwide celebrated their five years of sustainability leadership with a tree planting ceremony through their partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation. At this ceremony, the company fulfilled its goal of planting one million trees and reinforced their commitment to reducing its environmental footprint by 25% by 2025.
The partnership of Wyndham Worldwide and the Arbor Day Foundation is part of the Wyndham Green sustainability program. The company has committed to reduce its environmental footprint, preserve natural resources, and develop innovative solutions to manage climate change.
The company has been named on the North American Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the fourth year in a row. This index recognizes companies for operating in a socially, environmentally, and economically responsible manner. Wyndham Worldwide is the only hospitality company in North America to be on the list this year.
“We applaud and congratulate Wyndham Vacation Ownership for their one million tree milestone,” said Matt Harris, Arbor Day Foundation chief executive. “Because of their stewardship, communities and forests across the nation are now able to enjoy the myriad of benefits that trees supply. It is our hope that Wyndham will serve as inspiration to others in helping in our mission to plant, nurture and celebrate trees.”
The innovative sustainability programs Wyndham Worldwide has implemented with the Arbor Day Foundation include:
- Rain Forest Rescue Project: This supports shade-grown coffee served in Wyndham Vacation Ownership resorts and corporate offices.
- Carbon Offset Program: Owners and guests at Wyndham Vacation Ownership resorts can choose to offset their carbon emissions from their stay by planting a tree in one of the country’s state or national forests.
- Lied Lodge & Conference Center Renovation: In 2014, Wyndham Vacation Ownership worked on the renewal of the center in Nebraska. The center serves as a resource for the conservation-related organizations, business, educators, forestry professionals, and others.
