Hilton Grand Vacations Properties Eliminates Single-Use Plastic Straws
Friday, January 24, 2020
Leading vacation ownership and hospitality brand Hilton Grand Vacations has honored its commitment to replace all single-use plastic straws with environmentally-friendly alternatives at its 34 branded properties and is now working towards other more sustainable practices.
This decision is based on the company’s overall ban on plastic straws and commitment to removing them from all of its hotels around the world.
EPA’s Trash-Free Waters Program states that one- to two-thirds of beach debris is single-use plastic associated with food and beverage goods like bottles, utensils, plastic cups, and straws. Plastic continues to be one of the top 10 items found during beach clean-ups with plastic trash being one of the most harmful towards the environment, wildlife, and humans.
HGV President and CEO Mark Wang was proud to speak on this accomplishment:
“As we expand our corporate social responsibility program, HGV Serves, we’re always looking for more ways to reduce our environmental impact. Eliminating plastic straws from our resorts is a small but impactful way to act as good stewards of the environment.”
To continue their environmental efforts, Hilton Grand Vacations has also announced its partnership with Hilton and Clean the World. Clean the World is an international health organization that recycles hygiene products from the hospitality industry.
Wang also added:
“By combining efforts with Hilton brands, we are able to make an even greater impact on the environment and the communities we serve. We’re committed to continuing our sustainability efforts at HGV resorts across the globe and enhancing our program in the coming years.”
