Canadian Resort and Travel Association Shines Light On Organizations’ New Focus

New Canadian Resort and Travel Association (CRTA) President and CEO Gaetan Babin announced the organization’s new focus on Canadian residents traveling internationally. In the past, CRTA’s primary focus was on Canadian-based resorts, but its new concentration on international timeshare resorts and vacation clubs with high levels of Canadian members is a fresh way for the organization to further vacation ownership opportunities in Canada and around the globe.

CRTA members come from a variety of businesses within the industry including resorts, timeshares, vacation clubs, HOAs, developers, exchange companies, financial servicing companies, management companies, marketing companies, resale companies, suppliers, and more. Under the leadership of Babin, the organization will put more effort to include timeshare properties around the world like the Caribbean and Mexico, where Canadian residents make up a substantial percentage of owners.

Babin stated:

“We know that close to half a million Canadian timeshare owners have purchased in North America including Mexico and the Caribbean. Our goal is to create a CRTA Standard of Excellence, so that consumers and developers alike are protected. This will be an extra layer of consumer protection which will continue to further trust amongst Canadians purchasing vacations elsewhere. The CRTA stamp of approval will also greatly benefit the resort developers providing by another sales tool to offer assurance to prospective buyers.”

According to an article recently published in Timesharing Today, Mexico has the second largest number of timeshare developments and sales in the world. AMDETUR (Mexico’s timeshare trade association) also estimates that non-Mexico residents have purchased 70-80% of Mexico’s available timeshare inventory across 647 resorts from 2007-2019. The Caribbean’s specific statistics are consistent with these Mexico-specific findings.

CRTA is dedicated to upholding its high standard and Dode of Ethics, which its members agree to abide by when they join the organization. This Code of Ethics provides consumers with peace of mind and confidence in CRTA’s ethics and practices, which will ultimately provide them with a superior travel experience.

More on CRTA’s new focus will be showcased at the GNEX-CRTA 2022 Conference hosted in Toronto, Canada September 19-21, 2022.
