Disney Timeshare Makes a 26 Mile Run Even Better

Run to a Disney Timeshare
Supporters lined up to watch the Disney runners coming to the finish line at Epcot.

Whether they chose to stay in a Disney hotel, Disney Vacation Club, (Disney timeshare) or they were a local resident or had other accommodations, a record total 65,000 runners showed up this weekend at Disney World Orlando for the 20th Anniversary Walt Disney World Marathon.

With plenty of sunshine and summer-like temperatures, the runners couldn’t have had better weather for the events, which included a Half Marathon, Goofy’s Challenge, Family 5K run, Kids Races, an expo, and a “Cool Down” party, in addition to the Marathon itself. The race, which began and ended at EPCOT, wound through all four Walt Disney World theme parks, including the Disney Speedway and the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

Adriano Bastos, 34, of Sao Paulo, Brazil, won the Sunday Marathon with a time of 2 hours, 21 minutes, 16 seconds; it marked the eighth time he has claimed the title. Renee High, 31, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, won her second consecutive title, clocking in at 2:48:30, three seconds faster than her time from last year. High, who is a 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier, finished 11 minutes ahead of Antonia Silva of Fortaleza, Brazil, the women’s first runner-up.

Billed as the, “most magical 26.2 miles on Earth,” each year the event weekend, known as Run Disney, draws larger crowds than the year before. Race director Jon Hughes described the event saying, “This was the biggest and best marathon we’ve ever held.”

After yesterday’s race, many of the runners could be seen with their families and friends throughout the parks, amazingly with energy to spare for riding the rides and taking in the Disney attractions and entertainment.

Even though you may have missed being part of the magic of this year’s RunDisney, you still have options. There’s the TinkerBell Half Marathon Weekend, the Disney’s Princess Half Marathon Weekend, Expedition Everest Challenge, the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler Weekend and the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend. And if you were part of the Disney Vacation Club, you’d have a Disney timeshare to make planning your run weekends easy with accommodations that are roomy, luxurious, and convenient.
