Unplugged for your Memorial Day Timeshare Vacation? Yes!
Saturday, May 25, 2013
VacationBetter.org has just released information that reveals, “Contrary to popular belief, Americans do know how to unplug, unwind, and rejuvenate on vacation.” Whether it’s a week-long timeshare vacation, a week-end getaway, or even that rare but precious extended retreat that lasts for weeks, Americans are unplugging and leaving their jobs (and worries) behind, far more than most of us realize.
In a recent study conducted by The Research Intelligence Group (TRiG) for the American Resort Development Association (ARDA that survived 1,000 vacationers, the good news is that 75 percent are not doing any work at all while on vacation.
Howard Nusbaum, president and CEO of ARDA says, “Our industry has long advocated for taking a true vacation—not just working from a nicer place. Today’s leading health studies reinforce our message—that there are so many physical and mental health benefits that come with really ‘unplugging.’ And we’re happy to see so many people doing so.”
Here’s how the statistics break out for how many of us are working on our holidays, getaways, and timeshare vacations:
- 12 percent of those surveyed said they work one or two days while on vacation.
- 13 percent of those surveyed said they did “some work” over three days.
- And here’s the good news: 87 percent of vacationers are not doing any work at all during their getaway and time off.
This doesn’t mean we are leaving our tech tools and toys behind. On the contrary, 51 percent of vacationers take their laptops along, with the majority of those who do saying it is not for work. Likewise, 39 percent travel on vacation with their iPad or other smart device tablet, but only 9 percent are taking it along for work reasons.
