Extreme Village Makeover for Give Kids The World

GKTW VillageOver the next two weeks, the Give Kids The World Village will receive an Extreme Village Makeover. Hundreds of volunteers and contributors will come together to assist in the renovation of the whimsical resort and its villas.

The Give Kids The World (GKTW) Village, located in Kissimmee, FL opened 25 years ago as an opportunity to provide hotel accommodations for children with special needs. The village is comprised of 140 villas, 100 of which are in desperate need of renovation.

Offering more than just accommodations, the colorful 70-acre resort provides entertainment and attraction areas. GKTW also provides a variety of activities for families at the resort such as Pirate and Princess Parties.

To provide a bit of insight into the scale of this operation, 100,000 square ft. of flooring, 3,000 electrical switches and outlets, and 4,000 gallons of paint will be needed to complete the projected construction. New kitchen cabinets, appliances, and furniture will also be included in the villa upgrades.

Of course none of this would be possible without partners like Wyndham Vacation Ownership. Wyndham has become a key supporter for the project, supplying both time and resources to GKTW.

GKTW president, Pam Landwirth said,

“Our plan was to gradually renovate our villas over several years, so when our friends at Wyndham offered to help us complete the remaining one hundred villas over a two week period, I was in disbelief. Wyndham rallied their internal team and enlisted the support of countless others to make the dream a reality. The Extreme Village Makeover project will make a huge difference in the lives of the precious children we serve, ensuring that they and their families have a beautiful home away from home at the Village.”

Wyndham Vacation Ownership is equally excited for the event. Executive VP of Human Resources for Wyndham Vacation Ownership replied,

“We are honored to support Give Kids The World and the great work they do for these wonderful children and their families who benefit so much from their stays at the Village. We are proud to be a part of the Extreme Village Makeover and thank every partner, contractor, supplier, contributor, volunteer and everyone who is making this wonderful two-week project a reality.”

The Extreme Village Makeover will begin with an ice cream social this Saturday from 6:00 p.m.—8:00 p.m. and end with a celebration on January 25 from 12:00 p.m.—2:00 p.m.
