Vail Resorts Announces Big Plans for Park City Mountain Resort

Vail Resorts

Vail Resorts, Inc. has announced a $50 Million plan to upgrade the Park City Mountain Resort, one of the area’s most popular ski resorts. The organization plans to implement these changes in time for the 2015–2016 ski season.

The update will connect Park City Mountain Resort with Canyons Resorts (another popular ski destination). This plan is one of the largest and most ambitious programs in the ski industry. Experts feel it will completely transform how guests experience Park City Mountain Resort. Together the resorts will offer 7,300 acres of skiable terrain.

President of the mountain division for Vail Resorts, Blaise Carrig shared, “This comprehensive capital plan for Park City and Canyons is one of the most ambitious and impactful plans undertaken at any resort in industry history, transforming the experience at both resorts and creating the largest single ski resort in the U.S. with more than 7,300 acres of skiable terrain.”

One of the most anticipated upgrades is the Interconnect Gondola. Vail Resorts plans to add a high-speed, two-way gondola to the park that can hold up to eight passengers. The gondola will travel from the base of the Silverlode Lift at Park City to the Flatiron Life at Canyons. The new gondola will also provide a stopping point at Pine Cone Ridge, which connects to two of the park’s newest trails – Thaynes Canyons at Park City and Iron Mountain.

Vail Resorts also plans to build a new restaurant called the Snow Hut at the base of the mountain, next to the Interconnect Gondola. They will also upgrade the Summit House Restaurant at Park City and Expand the Red Pine Lodge Restaurant at Canyons. Finally, the resort also plans to allocate $5 million for maintenance and upkeep.

Carrig added,

“The improvements offer skiers and riders more terrain and upgraded lifts to enhance the guest experience and reduce crowding and lift lines, new and upgraded restaurants, more snowmaking and an overall ‘touching up’ of all aspects of the resorts. The plan was based on feedback from guests and the local community as well as discussions with the senior operating teams at the two resorts. We look forward to continuing to work with the county and the city and are hopeful we can bring this plan to life for the 2015–2016 ski season.”
