Wyndham Vacation Rentals Uncovers Ski Trends
Thursday, January 15, 2015
In a recent study, Wyndham Vacation Rentals discovered that young people are looking for more than the average ski trip. They want a great deal, entertainment, and a room big enough for all their friends.
Within the study, Wyndham Vacations Rentals 2014-2015 Ski Trends Research Report, Wyndham reviews traditional skier profiles, the next generation, and non-skiers. An online survey was used to collect data from 3,000 skiers and snowboarders. Participants included guests 18 and older who have either stayed in a Wyndham resort or subscribed to their mailing list.
President of Wyndham Vacation Rentals North America, Mary Lynn Clark said, “For the industry to cater to the evolving needs of ski and snowboard travelers, it’s important we get to know the next generation. By listening to their wants and needs in a ski vacation, we can hone our offerings and help deliver the well-rounded mountain experience they’re looking for.”
Wyndham found that the next generation of travelers (ages 18–34) are more likely to book a trip based on current specials and promotions. On the other hand, mature vacationers (age 55+) are more likely to book a trip based on tradition or an annual holiday.
The next generation also wants their friends and family members to join them on vacation. The study found that 71% of younger travelers consider their friends and family when planning a trip, compared to only 43% of mature travelers.
When it comes to activities, the next generation of skiers are also looking for an all-inclusive destination, rather than just a ski mountain. 60% of next generation participants stated that they want other outdoor activities, besides skiing and snowboarding. This is compared to only 48% of mature travelers. In addition, dining is also an important consideration to young travelers. 44% of next generation travelers prefer an on-site restaurant, compared to 25% of mature travelers.
This information is a lot to consider. As these travelers are the future of the industry, many resorts may choose to cater to their wants and needs. Certainly we expect that Wyndham will consider this information when creating promotional ads and even when developing new resorts.
