Wyndham Presents $100,000 Check to “Birdies Fore Backpacks”
Monday, August 31, 2015
Last week, Wyndham Worldwide presented a $100,000 check to “Birdies Fore Backpacks” at the Wyndham Championship golf tournament.
The check was presented by Stephen P. Holmes (Chairman and CEO of Wyndham Worldwide) and Faith Taylor (Senior VP of corporate social responsibility, Wyndham Worldwide) on behalf of the Wishes by Wyndham Foundation.
Launched back in 2014, Birdies Fore Backpacks helps feed kids from low-income families when they are away from school. Although many kids receive meals from school lunches, they may not be receiving full, nutritious meals at home during the weekend. To support the charity, Wyndham made “Birdies Fore Backpacks” the official benefactor of the Wyndham Championship.
Last year, Birdies Fore Backpacks raised almost $200,000 to help feed kids in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina.
Fans of the Wyndham Championship also contributed to the cause. When buying tickets online, fans had the option to donate $1.00 (or more) to Birdies Fore Backpacks. Attendees of the tournament also donated when purchasing merchandise, food, and beverages on the course.
The tournament took place at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. The Wyndham Championship is typically a week-long event which includes charity events, family activities, and of course, the golf tournament. Earlier this year, Wyndham announced that they plan to sponsor the annual event through 2026.
